Our world is now and has long been filled with conflicts borne out of opposing views – what we might call polarised views.

For example, I think this, you think the opposite. Or perhaps even more strongly – I believe this, and you believe that.

There is an essential value in this polarisation in that inherent within it is the opportunity for a new, synthesised viewpoint to emerge and as it does it brings with it a higher level of resonance and consciousness – we might say that when we find new points of synthesis, the world becomes more peaceful and within that more beautiful.

It seems then, that there may be an invitation, an opportunity for all of us, to open ourselves to truly grapple with the many seemingly opposing ideas and beliefs we encounter – within us and outside of us. When we do so, we open a gateway to a new level of reality, a new expression of Life, an expression which sits on a higher turn of the spiral of consciousness. We have the opportunity to become co-creative and build new experiences of life based on a higher resonance.

If we think about it, the great philosophers and thinkers dedicate their lives to this struggle – to finding the new sliver of a concept or an idea that in some way brings with it another fragment or more of the eternal puzzle of Life. Similarly artists of all forms – painters, sculptors, composers and so on live the eternal struggle as they seek to bring forward through their work something that at its very base level is a polarity – a seemingly empty canvas, a seemingly empty music scoresheet, a block of marble…and which over time each becomes a beautiful expression of something full and vital – a synthesis of emptiness and fullness.

One of the challenges facing us with synthesis is our desire that it be perfect, complete, an end point – a destination. In reality, synthesis is a step on the journey. It may be a tiny step; it may be something more substantial. We may broker peace between two nations, or we may resolve an inner conflict within ourselves and find a new level of personal peace.

At which ever level synthesis emerges it will be the result of an act of will and love coming together – the desire (love) to access a higher resonance within a conflict or polarity coupled with the intention (will) to find the next point. If we allow ourselves to let go of the need for an all or nothing resolution, we will be pleasantly surprised by the steps we can take toward a greater sense of wholeness.

Synthesis has at its core the essence of progression, of moving forward. On a Planetary level we are told in the Ageless Wisdom teachings that the planetary Purpose is to achieve the full synthesis of the very first thought expressed by the Planetary Logos…and that this is as much as we are able to discern or understand of the Planetary purpose. The point though is that at the very highest levels of planetary life synthesis sits at the core.

And even though the true meaning of the Planetary purpose is something we cannot know, it is undoubtedly something which we can commit ourselves to being in collaboration with by exploring any and all opportunities for greater synthesis on every level of human and Planetary existence.

Agni Yoga tells us that ‘only a sense of beauty can lead to synthesis’. (AY 302)

What is evoked in you when we consider a sense of beauty leading to synthesis?

In my experience, synthesis in many ways is like a dance. It has at its core grace, rhythm, creativity, expansion and contraction, light and shade – it contains all of these in a harmonious expression of oneness. Not to say that every person enjoys every form of dance equally but from an objective perspective the beauty inherent within dance, any dance, lies in the expression of these qualities. The same is true for synthesis. Synthesis is not some state of so called ‘perfection’. Synthesis contains the beauty of the struggle to find the point of harmony, of resolution, of peace. It contains the light and shade – the past, the present and a spark of the future.

Synthesis is beauty as an expression of unity and harmony in that moment – the best we can do right now and yet underpinned by the will and love to go further, to push the immediate limits and find the next level of synthesis and with that, the next expression of beauty.

When we open ourselves to the possibility and reality of Planetary Renaissance, we are opening ourselves to seeing beauty in all its guises. Understanding the true value of the polarities upon which our human consciousness is currently founded opens us to the possibility of seeking new levels of synthesis that bring the very best (and beauty) of these seemingly opposing views. Whether these exist within us individually and our family relationships or are resident in politics, religion, the law or the worlds of art and science…every dimension of human life is full of ‘conflicts’ and polarities.

We can cooperate with the unfolding and new levels of consciousness for Humanity and the Planet by seeking the beauty in these polarities and taking ourselves in search of synthesis – within ourselves and in our outer expressions.

In doing so, we become co-creators of new paths of beauty and ultimately a next stage of Planetary Renaissance.
